Listening Groups

NB – Although Convivium Music is no longer operating as a commissioning group the Pimento Listening Group is continuing – See……… http://www.convivium-music.org/listening-groups/pimento. The Listening Group at the Dog and Bone is not able to continue for the time being.

The Listening Groups started in 2003 as a series of activities called “Listening to Music” which met in seven convivial venues in Lincoln – cafes, the library, the art gallery, after a concert – to introduce a new audience to Classical music.

We were invited by Pimento Tea Rooms to meet in their parlour, an attractive room which is separate from the rest of the cafe.

The meeting is between 10.30am and 12.00noon.

Just like a book club, we chose a piece of music each month. This can be either something that is about to be performed locally so we can introduce the piece more fully and have some repeat listening to be able to understand and appreciate it more when we hear it live, or a members’ choice – something that we are passionate about and want to share.

The session is a drop-in one, so it is not a class and you do not need to pre-book. We don’t confine ourselves to strictly Classical and we touch on a great range of subjects including information about local performances and music groups. Run by Convivium Music, it is by definition a convivial occasion, relaxed and friendly and we welcome beginners to Classical music.

There is a meeting fee of £1 to cover administration and publicity.

If you would like to start a group in your area that is affiliated to Convivium Music, please enquire by email to convivium.music@ntlworld.com.
